Texas Governor Issues Blistering Letter To President Biden Over Border Crisis

President Joe Biden recently visited the U.S.-Mexico border on his first trip as president. In response, Texas Governor Greg Abbott wrote a scathing letter to the president, criticizing his border policies. In his letter, Abbott noted how the president’s visit avoided areas where mass illegal immigration occurs and that his tour was “sanitized” of migrant camps. He also said that President Biden’s border policies were “$20 billion too little and two years too late.”

President Biden had proposed an $11 billion spending plan for improving the U.S.-Mexico border in March 2021, which would include nearly $3 billion for humanitarian aid, $2 billion for a refugee processing center, and $2 billion for housing and other services for unaccompanied minors who crossed into the U.S., among other initiatives. This comes after Congress approved a record-breaking $1 trillion COVID-19 relief package earlier this year that included $900 million for border security measures. However, Texas Governor Greg Abbott does not believe it is enough money or attention being given to this situation at the U.S.-Mexico border because he says these issues have been ignored and exacerbated by President Biden since taking office.

Governor Greg Abbot’s letter highlights how urgent it is that President Joe Biden take action now on addressing the surge of illegal immigration occurring along our southern borders before it gets any worse than it already is. It has become essential that our Commander-in-Chief take immediate steps towards providing relief and assistance to all those affected by this crisis—not just those attempting to make their way into our country but also those living near its southernmost points who are feeling overwhelmed by this influx of people seeking refuge in America from their home countries. Texas needs help now before things spiral out of control any further.
