Americans have long been aware of the communist threat from China, but the recent incident involving a Chinese spy balloon flying over our continental United States is a shocking and troubling development. Beijing’s aggressive actions are meant to challenge America’s sovereignty and undermine our national security.
The Biden administration recently determined that the suspected Chinese spy balloon shot down by the US military last week was outfitted with sophisticated electronic surveillance technology capable of monitoring communications signals. This is not only outrageous, but it’s also an unacceptable violation of international law.
Furthermore, this disturbing news comes on top of reports that China has flown similar balloons over more than 40 countries across five continents as part of its military operations—a frightening reminder of its global ambitions.
“High-resolution imagery from U-2 flybys revealed that the high-altitude balloon was capable of conducting signals intelligence collection operations,” the official said in reference to the Air Force’s high-altitude reconnaissance plane, Politico reported.
America must take action now to protect its citizens from these dangerous threats. The State Department has already stated it will “explore taking action against PRC entities linked to the PLA that supported the balloon’s incursion into US airspace,” and we should expect even further consequences for those responsible for this serious breach of security.
“A recovery operation to secure debris from the balloon is ongoing with analysis continuing at an FBI laboratory in Virginia, but the officials’ remarks suggest the US has already established the balloon was operating with electronic surveillance technology,” CNN noted.
At a time when President Biden continues his efforts to strengthen ties with Beijing, we should be extra vigilant about protecting our country from any potential threats posed by Communist China—including those posed by their spy balloons. We must remain dedicated to safeguarding American freedom and democracy at all costs.
