Unless you’ve been living under a rock then you know that former President Donald Trump has announced that he is running for the 2024 Republican nomination for President. Trump has been hinting at his big announcement for a while now, so no one was surprised by this announcement but many of us are ecstatic over the news.
One person who doesn’t seem so happy about it is former Vice-President Mike Pence. Pence had plenty to say only hours before Trump’s big announcement.
“I honestly believe that we’re going to have better choices,” Pence said. “I hear people saying that they would like us to move forward with leadership that will unite our country around our highest ideals and reflect the kind of respect and civility that the American people demonstrate to each other every day.”
“Candidates that were focused on the past, on re-litigating the last election, did not fare so well,” Pence said. “There’s a real affirmation here that the Republican Party needs to be focused on the future.”
Pence claims that he stayed loyal to Trump up until January 6, 2020. He said, “In that moment, when that tweet came across, it angered me.” Either way, I care more about what Trump had to say during his speech:
“In order to make America great and glorious again. I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump said Tuesday evening to a crowd of supporters.
“But just as I promised in 2016, I am your voice. I am your voice. The Washington establishment wants to silence us, but we will not let them do that. What we have built together over the past six years is the greatest movement in history because it is not about politics. It’s about our love for this great country, America, and we’re not going to let it fail,” said Trump.
“I am running because I believe the world has not yet seen the true glory of what this nation can be. We have not reached that pinnacle, believe it or not,” he continued, blaming President Biden for the current state of the nation. “In fact, we can go very far. We’re going to have to go far first. We have to get out of this ditch. And once we’re out, you’ll see things that nobody imagined for any country. It’s called the United States of America. And it’s an incredible place.”
He is correct, America is an incredible place and we need to “Make it great again.” I know who I think can make that happen.
