The recent train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio is an outrageous display of the government’s negligence. Not only have they failed to protect citizens from a potential health hazard, but now it appears that the government has been covering up the scope of this disaster.
It was initially reported that vinyl chloride had spilled into the environment. But further investigation revealed that several other toxic chemicals were released as well, including hydrogen chloride and phosgene. Residents in the area were forced to evacuate while a controlled burn took place, with no guarantee of their safety or health.
This accident could have been avoided if proper maintenance had taken place on the train cars before they left Illinois. The fact that these issues weren’t addressed before departure shows how little value the government places on human life and safety.
What makes matters worse is that residents are still feeling its effects weeks later with reports of dead animals and fish floating in local streams after exposure to whatever toxins remained in the air following the burning process.
Now there is a lawsuit filed against Norfolk Southern for failing to address any potential health risks associated with this incident as well as failing to disclose all substances released from its derailed train cars. We must hold those responsible accountable for their negligence and incompetence.
This should be a wake-up call for anyone who believes the government’s agenda will make our country better off—it won’t. They want us all to live under their thumb without any regard for public safety or individual rights. We must take action now before more disasters like this occur.
This is why people don't trust government.
You cannot tell people that there has been and continues to be hazardous pollutants contaminating the environment while at the same time saying "all is well."People aren't stupid. @GovMikeDeWine @EPA https://t.co/eSfa9JPKzH
