It’s no secret that sometimes parents can be too hard on their kids—especially when it comes to chores. But a recent incident in Florida involving 17-year-old Tobias “Toby” Jacob Brewer has taken this issue to a whole new level. Brewer was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking his mother with a frying pan and stabbing her multiple times, all because she kept asking him to clean his room.
According to reports, the incident occurred on November 30th when Brewer’s mother asked him to clean his room. Instead of doing as he was asked, however, he allegedly attacked her with a frying pan before stabbing her multiple times with a pocket knife. After the attack, Brewer reportedly fled the scene in his car, only to be apprehended by police shortly thereafter. He has since been transferred to adult court for the charges against him.
Brewer himself has admitted that he attacked his mother due to her “constantly harping” about cleaning his room. It can be easy for some people to brush off news stories like this as isolated incidents or even make jokes about them, but these types of incidents should not be taken lightly—especially since there have been several similar cases reported in recent years.
“The suspect advised that he does not like cleaning his room and was tired of the victim (his mom) constantly harping about it,” the report stated. Brewer told detectives that he then took both of his mom’s car keys and took money out of her purse “so that he can have money once he left the area,” a probable cause affidavit said.
Brewer’s mother is in the hospital in critical condition. She told investigators that “Toby did this.”
